Clay Stories is coming to the June meeting!
Several years ago I came up with an idea that took place at the NCECA conference in Providence, Rhode Island, and ever since then it has been an annual feature at NCECA. The event is called Clay Stories, and I am going to host a homegrown version of Clay Stories in our upcoming guild meeting on June 16, 2018.
The idea is simple. As potters, whether we are full time or part time, we have seen some shit. And that shit needs to be shared…with other potters! You might have a story about a pot or potter who has inspired you in some way, about a spectacular firing, about a kiln disaster, or about the way clay has changed your life in some way. Your story can be funny, heartbreaking, touching, or amazing in any of an infinite number of ways. So, come to the June meeting, and bring a story to share! I’ve got some good ones from my early days in clay with Jim Romberg in the pottery studio at SOSC in Ashland, as well as some stories about potters I’ve met at different workshops over the years. The odds are really good that you too have some stories to tell – so bring your ideas and entertain us!
The stories are oral – no need to write down your story and then read it aloud – just tell the story the old fashioned way.
The only limitation to the story that you tell is that it can be no longer than 5 minutes long.
If you have any questions please email me.
Cheers, Owen
